Choosing a Campsite

Within 20 miles of Moab, camping is only allowed in developed campgrounds.  When choosing a camp spot for dispersed camping, pick one that’s been used before and leave it in better shape than you found it. Make sure to fully extinguish all fires until ashes are cool to the touch, and do your best to avoid disturbing the natural landscape.

Camping limited to 14 days in the BLM Campground.

Minimize campfire impacs

Check fire restrictions

Change "impacs" to "impacts"

Replace "Only use sticks from the ground that can be broken by hand." to  "No woodcutting or gathering."

Change "Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes." to "Burn all wood and coals to ash and put out campfires completely.

Respect prohibited areas

Entering those areas would disturb the local wildlife and may destroy the breeding grounds of those animals. Instead, respect those prohibited areas and stay out of them!

Pack it in, Pack it out

Pack out your trash and recycle it, clean up after less thoughtful visitors, and dispose of human and pet waste properly.

Pack out your poop

Due to high use, human and pet waste are a serious health issue at dispersed camping sites. All solid waste must be packed out in approved waste bags or portable toilet systems. These may be purchased at the Moab Information Center and local outdoor retailers.

Do not dispose of Wag Bags in regular trash cans.  Due to the compression process involved in regular trash collection, these bags can rupture and create a serious biohazard.  Wag Bags should be brought directly to the Moab Transfer Station, 2295 South Highway 191 (3 miles south of Moab). The Moab Transfer Station is open weekdays from 8am-4pm and Saturdays from 8am-12pm.
